Seward

 Where we stayed:

in our motorhome, in the Resurrection campground since it has some hookups (water, electricity). The city of Seward has several campgrounds along the water, all have stunning views of Resurrection Bay. We like staying on that end of town (even if we were to get a hotel room) because we like the downtown area.

What we did:

Beachcombing, playing at the park, flying kites. The Alaska SeaLife Center is within walking distance of the campgrounds and we really enjoy visiting it. The exhibits are really set up well and there's a touch tank for the kids (and I guess the grownups too. If you've ever wondered what a sea cucumber feels like, here's your chance!) We walked around downtown, visiting the stores.

On day two we drove to Exit Glacier located in the Kenai Fjords National Park and hiked to the glacier. On our previous trip we hiked to the overlook and this time we decided to go to the toe. We first hiked to the waterfall which required a few water crossings (it's glacial runoff so it's freezing cold and silty so it's hard to see the bottom. Obviously proceed at your own risk). Then we walked to the base of the glacier. No matter how warm the temperatures, the wind coming off the glacier is cold. Bring a light jacket just in case.

Where we ate:

The Seward Brewing Company. It was a nice, warm day and the salted watermelon salad with a Rockfish Red was the perfect lunch. Afterwards we walked to Sweet Darlings and bought some saltwater taffy.

Williwaw Nature Trail

As many times as we've been to Portage Valley, we've never heard of the Williwaw Nature Trail. It can be accessed from either the Williwaw Fish Viewing Platform or the Trail Of Blue Ice. It's flat and follows a stream through thick forest opening into beautiful blue ponds.

Homer

There's a lot to do on the Homer Spit. We stayed at the Heritage RV Park which was a lot spendier than most RV parks we've been to but the price was worth staying on the spit. We preferred to cross the roadway to spend time on the beach on that side but the RV park has it's own beach as well as a fishing hole. We also spent a lot of time walking down the paved walkway to the shops and restaurants. Brunch at La Baleine was fantastic. Just sitting down and people-watching was pretty entertaining!

Exit Glacier

Exit Glacier is an easy to access glacier near Seward. The trail is well-defined and there's a few options depending on what you want to see. It was an easy hike for our family and there was lots of gorgeous scenery. We didn't see any moose but we found a lot of moose droppings so they must hang out on the trail frequently. There's a lot of pullouts on the road to the glacier which we took advantage of and stopped for a picnic lunch by the river.

Seward

We camped in our motorhome at the city's Resurrection Campground. It's a big gravel parking lot with some hookups and views of Resurrection Bay right outside your window. It's an easy walk to anywhere downtown from the campground. The Alaska App was a huge help on this trip, directing us to the fun things that Seward has to offer. The whole family really enjoyed the Alaska SeaLife Center. We had a delicious meal at Seward Brewery and followed it up with gelato from Sweet Darlings.
